wedding planning

So I am getting closer and closer to being done with my schooling and I need some insight for my wonderful friends and family. I see that a few of my friends that have their own businesses will have a separate facebook and/or blog for their business. Is it helpful or just a pain? And how do you get the word out? Just by word of mouth from friends at first I'm assuming?
